FWD Updates for 2021

As we kick off the 2021 riding season in various areas, I just wanted to give an update on the Decorah FWD chapter. Currently, there will not be any official planned rides outside of random group rides that may be set up in a more "virtual" format.

Reasons Are:
Work is busy and it's just Travis and myself at the bike shop. More time is being devoted to work and there is less time to try and schedule a group ride.

Group ride attendance had been very poor. It's been challenging to set up an official group ride to find that maybe one person would show up...worst case…none.

The truth is, I burnt myself out trying very hard over the past several years to create an engaged, women-focused, mountain bike community in Decorah.

One can put in so much effort and due to having minimal results, I need to pull back and take a break from forcing something that just isn't ready to happen in Decorah at this time.

Eventually, when Carlson Park is established, I think it will be a lot easier to introduce more folks to trails that are easier to learn on. Plus, there will be a better space to work on building mountain bike skills, too. However, it's going to be awhile before that is all said and done. It's not to say that I won't come back with fresh effort in the near future, but I learned over 2020 that I definitely need a break. I need to take time to focus on my own biking and other interests outside of mountain biking that I put off year after year.

I thank everyone for their support, and I encourage folks to engage with and support the other FWD groups. Some of the FWD groups are thriving, and others may end up merging with other groups depending on how saturated the group ride scene is in their area. Fearless Women of Dirt will always exist, but at this time, I'm not planning to try and grow it further. At this time, on a local level, it's on hiatus. However, if one is looking for someone to ride with if visiting town, I am totally open if it fits in my schedule. Just ask!
